The proper vaccination program for your dairy herd can improve herd health and maintain good performance. Vaccines prepare an animal's immune system to respond quickly to infection by a specific organism, prevent signs of disease, and reduce the spread of diseases.

After you have established a vaccination program, through consultation with your veterinarian, there are a few tips that will help ensure maximum benefits from the program. Always be sure to read the label for safety information, storage recommendations, withdrawal times, route of administration, the purpose of the vaccine or drug and instructions for proper preparation. Also, remember that pathogenic organisms may be present, but visible symptoms may not always be seen. Good balanced nutrition, such as that provided by ANC, and the best possible management will help minimize serious problems.
