Quality Nutrition Leads to Peak Performance -
Feb 23, 2009 - 6:06:09 PM
All too often we are only concerned with balanced rations for milk cows when considering high production. We must remember the importance of quality nutrition throughout the lactation, that will lead to peak performance. However, keep in mind not all dairies operate in the same manner. Protein: Amino Acids, Microbial & Supplemental -
Feb 23, 2009 - 6:02:48 PM
Feeding the high producing dairy cow has been an increasing challenge as consumers desire animal products with less fat and higher protein. Producers, on the other hand, desire feeding programs and new feeding strategies that not only improve production, but also herd health. At ANC, we are expanding ration formulation programs to help ensure that the intake of usable nutrients by the cow are not only in balance, but also minimize nutrient loss in animal waste. The results of these efforts have been increased dry matter intake and improved feed efficiency, which results in more profit for the dairy producer.

Phosphorus Levels -
Feb 23, 2009 - 6:00:27 PM
A major environmental concern as of late is that of the overuse of phosphorous (P). It is thought that excessive P in fertilizer and animal feed could affect wetlands and waterways. This excessive P causes algae blooms which severely decrease the amount of oxygen available to aquatic life. How concerned should we be?

NDF-digestibility (NDFd) -
Feb 23, 2009 - 5:55:48 PM
Cows have the ability to digest part of the Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) of a feed and turn that into energy. NDFd is a test that is available for forages to determine the digestible part of the forage. The price for the NDFd test ranges from $8 to $24 additional investment per individual forage sample. NDFd will be used to predict energy from the forage more precisely than we could before.
