NIACIN: 6 grams per cow per day supplied. This helps convert fat energy into milk, increasing production, while reducing Ketosis. Niacin is a B- Vitamin, one of several supplied in HP-Bio, such as Choline Chloride. In general, B-Vitamins help improve appetites. Cost to buy niacin separately is 8-10 cents a cow depending on the source.

PROTEINATED ZINC, MANGANESE, COPPER, DAIRY COBALT: "OPTIMIN" are the brand names used. These are called proteinates because the trace minerals are bonded (chelated) to methionine, and in some cases, Iysine (both of which are amino acids, building blocks of protein). ZINC OPTIMiN is equivalent to the brand name Zin-Pro. Proteinated trace minerals have great value in helping cows show stronger heats and getting them bred, along with better overall herd health. Even though cost is higher, they are more effective as they are better metabolized by the animal Dairy Nutritionist Marshall E. McCullough states in a recent 'Feedstuffs' article; "In herds being pushed for top milk production, I am inclined to use some trace minerals as chelates. The general rule is to feed 25% of the mineral as a chelate. I use chelates of copper, manganese, zinc, and sometimes cobalt. ANC's levels of chelates closely match this suggestion. Adding Zin-Pro alone costs 2 cents, and Cuplex (copper) 4 cents. There are now combination Chelated trace mineral supplements available that cost 4-20 cents per day.

LIVE BACTERIA: Lactic Acid producing bacteria of five different strains are included: Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. casei, L. fermentum, L. plantarum and Streptococcus faecium. Also included are Bacillus subtilis. These improve fiber digestion and help insure against a decreased rumen microbial population, which results from changes in feeding and environment. Users of bacteria supplements claim such benefits as increased appetite, production, protein test, and feed utilization. Many competitor's products only contain 1-2 strains of bacteria. LIVE CELL YEAST and YEAST CULTURES: These increase digestibility of protein and fiber along with improving appetite. Prefresh and early lactation cows benefit greatly as increasing feed intake means healthier cows and more milk!
